I know this is probably better in the JAL forum, but I wanted to get the comments from the people I trust http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Planning award travel on JAL from LAX to NRT and then onto Singapore. Will be in first all the way....what should I expect?I took JAL First from LAX-NRT last year. The first class treatment is simply OK..nothing better. Seats are two by two with great pitch. Food is OK, with a very good variety. The entertainment options are terrbible with one exception..the 62"glasses that you can put on and it looks like a movie screen. One thing that is better than any US airline.. the FA. They are superb. They cannot do enough . Lounge in NRT is good with excellent sushi and sandwiches. No real arrivals lounge that I can remember however.Although I cannot speak first hand I suggest you look at the Oneworld, Stagnant membership... thread the last posting, from Kaoru Kanetaka. The correspondent is one that I know to be a person of exquisite taste and vast travel and gustatory experience whose opinion can be thoroughly relied on. Happy traveling.

I will be staying in Tokyo for 1 night before I continue to Singapore.
And sorry for the 'generic' comment on First all the way. Actually, yes, it is business to Singapore.
I would LOVE to go on CX but they don't have any FC seats out of LAX on the days I want. They have some business class...now if anyone here tells me CX BC is better then JAL FC then I will change my plans and go CX in a hearbeat. I have never been able to get a flight on CX but believe me, I have tried.....Just did LAX-NRT-SGN on 12/18/01 and the return on 1/1/02. LAX-NRT and return was in First. NRT-SGN and return was in business, no first class offering. I got about 100 meg of pictures but no where to post them (Photopoints anyone?). First class service was excellent and business class was only a little less. My wife and I tried both the Western and Japanese menus in all segments and we agreed that the Japanese menu is much better. The First class menu was changed for the new year with many different items. We got to celebrate the new year JAL style and it was a surprise. I will post a complete trip report once I have found a place to post the pictures. I guarantee you will like the pictures I have taken.Based on two RT's JFK-NRT in F, I recommend ordering the Japanese menu. Western sounded good, was boring. Japanese sounded odd, was delicious.Even if JAL's first class from LAX to NRT are non-suite type old seats, their comfort, let alone their cuisine far surpasses CX's C class. CX's new C class seats are just now being introduced on their LHR route only, I think.
Also from NRT to SIN, if JL's equipment is 744, the chances are that even if its listed as C/Y configuration, its actually a three-class cabin and premium passengers are often
seated in the front first class cabin. The food and service would be C class standards, though. I hope you can somehow manage to get those front cabin seats to SIN.I am assuming that you are actually staying in Tokyo and not just changing planes.
If the latter , then obviously CX is the way to go to SIN on your award trip in FC for the very bestFirst in JAL is very good. But one thing you'd like to double check though... there is no First Class between Japan and Singapore. Only 2 class cabin aircrafts are flown on that route.
Seats in First are singles, though not like the flat beds that other asian carriers currently have. Though JAL is supposed to be updating them sometime in the new year.
You get your choice of Japanese and Western meal of course. JAL is a nice 'asian-western' airline.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
